A Cob Mob?
Free Workshop and Family Fun Day:
Building a Wall Out of Clay, Sand and Straw
Interested in building your own green playhouse, chicken coop, garden wall, or a room of your own:
- Using all natural materials?
- Construction techniques so easy and safe that kids can do it?
- For a few hundred dollars?
Carolina Cob (Creative Opportunities in Building) is holding a Family Fun Day this coming Saturday, May 1, from 9am to noon. You’ll discover how easy it is to make the adobe mix (we call it “cob”) and shape a load-bearing wall.
Activities include:
Measuring the materials and pouring the mix
“Dancing” the mix (see the hilarious video below!)
Forming cobs (soft wet bricks)
Building the wall
Check out this footage from our last two weekends to see how easy and how much fun natural building can be:
Come join us for some cobbing fun and help us raise the walls on our cob house.
Light refreshments provided.
Come for a while or stay the whole time.
Bring family and friends – the more the merrier.
When: Saturday, May 1, 9:00AM to 12:00PM

As you can see cobbing can be fun, but you’ll likely get a little (ok, maybe a lot) of mud on you so please dress accordingly. Cobbing is typically done barefoot so slip on shoes help, but you can wear shoes if you’d prefer, boots that you don’t mind getting muddy work well.
If the weather is warm, you might want to bring a hat, water bottle, and sunscreen as well.
Here’s where we’ll be cobbing. You can see the walls before and after the first layer of cob.

We hope to see you Saturday.
Elizabeth Edmiston, Greg Allen, Michele Hughes, and Wynn Cherry
P.S. Don’t forget to let us know if you are coming.
