A good home must be made, not bought. - Joyce Maynard

Elizabeth

Elizabeth’s always been interested in design, and designed her own house in the country many, many years ago. Though she no longer lives there, that house is still a favorite.

Her enthusiasm for natural building developed more recently.  It started with learning from a friend about cob building and wondering how one builds with corn cobs.  Fortunately that misunderstanding did not last long.

It hardened after reading The Hand-Sculpted House – A Practical and Philosophical Guide to Building a Cob Cottage by Ianto Evans, Michael G. Smith, and Linda Smiley.  Why does a house “have to” cost so much?

It peaked when she first entered a cob cottage and really felt what others had described – the experience of being inside an earthen structure – the feeling of being inside the earth. This is the time for us all to remember how to live in ayni (in balance) with the earth.

In her prior lives, Elizabeth has been a college professor and brings that teaching experience to Carolina Cob.  She also builds on her experiences with project management and computer consulting.
